Tourism Best Practice Mission Travel Trade – How To Take Your Business to the World!

The purpose of this mission is to showcase organizations, tourism operators and destinations that demonstrate Best Practices in working with and developing product for the travel trade. Destination(s) visited will have developed product that is on point for the travel trade market. Participants will learn from leading edge Canadian tour operators what it takes to work within this realm, and also be exposed to small businesses that have created experiences and products for this market.

Leading us on this mission is Eva Gutsche a leading expert in the field of Partnering and Packaging for the travel trade.  Eva will share her insight and ideas for how to grow your business in this field while introducing us to leaders in the industry such as Jonview Canada and a host of leading Signature Experience providers in the Niagra and Muskoka region.

Location: Toronto – Niagara – Muskoka  (Flights into and out of Toronto, Pearson International)

Dates: March 19 – 24

Estimated Costs: $1600 – $1900 (Depending on Airport Departure).  For those who are eligible there is a 50% subsidy on all eligible costs up to a maximum of $1500.

tourism operator locally:
  • Approaching the travel trade partner – options for connecting
  • Partnership Opportunities – trade shows, trade missions, sales calls, CSE
  • Expanding the opportunity – working with your travel trade partner
  • Season extension programs

Target Participants

Target participants for this mission will include tour operators, SME wanting to expand into the travel trade market or learn how to increase their existing offerings for this segment, DMO managers/marketers

Arrival into Toronto – Travel Day need to be in Toronto by 5:30 pm

5:30 PM – Meet in Lobby of Hotel

6:00 PM-  Supper at Keg

8:00 AM – Breakfast at Hilton Toronto Airport with General Manager – Allison Fraser

9:30 AM– Depart for Jonview Head Office

10:00  – 11:00 AM – Meet with Jonview team

11: 15 AM – Depart Jonview for Niagara Falls

1:00 PM – Lunch in Niagara and Free Time to Walk around

3:00 PM – Niagara Falls Signature Experience Walk – How they design and build world class experience for the Travel Trade

4:30 PM  - Check in at Hotel

7:00 PM Dinner at Strewn winery

Day 3 – Tuesday March 21st, JW Mariott The Rosseau Muskoka Resort and Spa ($129 plus tax), 1050 Paignton House Rd, (705) 765-1900

8:00 AM – Breakfast at the Inn and presentation from owner of the Inn John Pinter who brought and expanded the Inn and manages OTAs with a strong revenue management program very successfully – great example of a small business within an iconic destination.

9:30 AM Departure and Travel to Muskoka

12:30 PM  - Lunch at Oar and Paddle

3:00 PM –  Cranberry Marsh (Signature Experience) tour and presentation

5:00 PM – Arrive at JW Marriott

7:00 PM Dinner at hotel

Day 4 – Wednesday March 22nd, Chelsea Hotel ($99 plus tax), 33 Gerrard Street West, Toronto, (416) 585-4392

7:30 AM  - Depart for Haliburton Forest with boxed lunch

10:00 AM- Morning experience – Dog Sledding at the Haliburton Forest – Haliburton Forest is one of Canada’s Leading Adventure Tour Operators offering a number of Signature Experiences.  They work extensively with the Travel Trade and will provide great insights on how to prepare your experience and deliver for that market.

11:30 AM – Presentation and Lunch – Haliburton Forest

1:30 PM– Depart Haliburton Forest

4:00 PM- Arrive at the Chelsea Toronto Hotel

6:00 PM– Dinner Don Ikazaya

Day 5 – Thursday March 23rd, Chelsea Hotel ($99 plus tax), 33 Gerrard Street West, Toronto, (416) 585-4392

8 – 10:00  AM – Morning – Breakfast at Chelsea. Breakfast will be followed by a panel discussion made up of OTMPC  staff, Ontario Signature Experience, Tourism Toronto. STEM will guide the panel discussion.

11:00  AM –  Porter Airlines – working with airlines to develop offerings.

1:30 PM  – Lunch CN Tower Region

2:30 – 4:00 PM – Aquarium Tour and Presentation

4:30 PM – Final Wrap up at Chelsea

6:30PM  - Lobby for Taxis to Distillery District

7:00 PM – Cluny’s for Supper

Day 6 – Friday, March 24th, Departure  

Departure at your leisure for home.
